Flow Velocity and Sand Loading Effect on Erosion–Corrosion during Liquid-Solid Impingement on Mild Steel

The presence of CO2, sand, and water in oil gas reservoirs causes erosion–corrosion leading to material degradation pipelines fluid handling equipment that results increasing maintenance repair costs a decrease production. While the weight loss caused by is known depend on flow velocity, angle impact, sand loading size target properties, field operators often limit rate based critical corrosion velocity protect equipment. This study investigates effects associated with mild steel sample using submerged impingement jet. erosion, their interaction for range 10 m/s 20 300 mg/L 600 mg/L, seawater environment, are presented. showed pure erosion increases linearly jet loading, dominant all cases except at low loading. scanning electron microscope (SEM) images after tests were analyzed.
